Prerequisites for carrying through
the IB-Course are the ability and willingness necessary to meet the
considerable demands of the subject matter. It is therefore important
that the applicant is clear in his or her own mind, why he or she is
interested in this precise course and has a realistic evaluation of
his or her capacity to complete an international curriculum in English
and to be examined in that language.
The Pre-IB Class
Danish and foreign students with 9 or 10 years
schooling can be accepted for this class if they are adjudged suitable
for the Danish Gymnasium. A course in Danish is given to foreigners.
Students who have completed the Pre-IB class
with satisfactory results can be accepted into the two-year
International Baccalaureate Diploma Course. Students, who are not
accepted into the Diploma Course, or who have changed their minds
about the IB, can continue directly in the Danish gymnasium after the
foundation course under the condition that the line of studies (studieretning),
they have applied for, is not full. Furthermore, students wishing to
change are responsible for catching up with any new subjects which
they have not studied as a part of their pre-IB foundation course.
The IB-Diploma Course
As stated above, students who have
satisfactorily completed the Pre-IB Course will be accepted for the
Diploma Course.
In addition, the Diploma Course will also be
open to students who have completed 11 years of schooling. This could
apply to young Danes who return home after a year or several years at schools
abroad and who wish to resume their education in Denmark; or to young
foreigners resident in Denmark; or to students in the 1st year of the
normal gymnasium who wish to change to the IB.
How to apply for
admission to the Pre-IB Course and the IB Course
Application forms are available at the Gymnasium
or
here.
The application should be accompanied by an
evaluation from the previous school attended as to the pupil’s
suitability for continuing at Gymnasium level. Also attached should be
a copy of the pupil’s latest School Report and Marks, and a detailed
statement by the applicant of his or her reasons for wishing to study
for an international baccalaureate and thus to be admitted to the Pre-IB
Course or directly to the IB-Diploma Course.
The applicant will be informed of the results of
his or her application in April. A personal interview or a test may be
required for some applicants.
Applicants with especially good reasons for
commencing or continuing an international course will be given
preference.
Closing date for applications is March 15th
(Applications after this date will be
accepted if possible)
Tuition is free. It is expected, however,
that to some extent students will provide themselves with dictionaries
and a pocket calculator, as is the practice in the Danish Gymnasium.
You can live at the
Boarding School
Attached to Nyborg Gymnasium is a boarding
school with good amenities. You can live here while taking the
international course - if, for example, your parents live abroad or
far from Nyborg, or you wish to live independently of your family but
in secure surroundings. Further information about the boarding school
is available from the Gymnasium Office.
