Daily life at the boarding school

You have chosen to live in a place with many people. This requires not
only the ability to mix with others, but also consideration for and
helpfulness towards them.
We have no strict rules for when you must be home, do your homework, or
go to bed. Since, however, schooling requires regular preparation and
being able to get up in the morning, there are periods when there must be
quiet in the boarding school. With regard to alcohol, parties and guests
there are certain rules to be followed. You also share responsiblility for
the daily routine and certain duties are incumbent upon you.
Meals
All main meals are taken in the dining-room. Warm food is served at
lunchtime, while in the evening there is a cold buffet with bread and open
sandwiches. Vegetarian wishes are also taken into account.
Drinking
Moderate consumption of beer, wine and spirits is permitted in the
boarding school on the evenings of Friday and Saturday. On other evenings
the teacher on duty may give permission for such consumption on special
occasions. Reserves of alcoholic beverages in rooms are not allowed, nor
is it permitted to sell such beverages.
Stocks of alcoholic beverages for parties must be deposited with the
duty teacher until such events commence.
Duties
You must keep your room and window clean.
Floor duty: Each pupil is on duty for a week at the time. Duties
include washing-up in the floor kitchen, keeping this and the homework
room and window clean, and emptying the waste basket in the homework room.
Common room duty: Two pupils for a week at a time have common room
duties, which consist of daily tidying-up in the common rooms and other
public areas.
Kitchen duty: Two pupils for a week at a time have kitchen duty.

Democracy at the boarding school
Since the boarding school is home for students for two or three years,
it is only natural that they should participate in and bear some
responsibility for its daily functioning. There are four "joint
committee" a year, when students from all floors and staff gather to
discuss problems and matters of interest. There is student and staff
representation in other committees.
The Welfare Committee looks
after students daily weel-being and organizes common activities, such as
theatre visits, bowling, surfing and skating. Students or the economy inspector may summon all
students for a "general meeting". In addition, students hold
their own "floor meetings", where they discuss immediate
problems and plan social activities
Homework
The boarding school must be quiet during the homework preparation hous
from 3.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. from Monday to Thurday. During examination
periods, or when major essays are being written, there must be quiet at
all times. The teacher on duty will be pleased to help you with your work.
