The role of the counsellor
The main task of the counsellor is to make the sure, that the pre-IB and IB students of Nyborg Gymnasium get the best possible outcome and results from the course. The counsellor guides the students into having appropriate study habits and social behavior and also supports students who is in need of support. The counsellor keeps an overview of the progress of the individual IB student and will intervene offering relevant advice and help.
Students can always address the counsellor whether the issue is personal problems, subject specific problems or advice concerning the choices that have to be made during the IB course. It is always a very good idea for students to inform the counsellor if there are any circumstances that might have an influence on how the student is able to perform during the IB course. This helps the counsellor to keep an overview of the student’s situation and to estimate which further steps shall be taken to support the student.
The counsellor is keeping an eye on how the individual classes thrive and if there is a good class room environment. Among other he cooperates with the teachers of the class, the class team and the IB-coordinator to have regular updates on the proceedings in the class.
Parents are always welcome to contact the counsellor if they have questions, considerations or concerns related to the school attendance / schooling of the students.
The counsellor collaborates with the Danish UU-centers and their counsellors. (UU-centers – Ungdommens uddannelsesvejledning = counselling around education for young persons ). If students e.g. want to change their education a UU counsellor will be called to help the student in his / her considerations around finding another education.
If students have questions around further education they have the opportunity to contact Studievalg Fyn to get further information. See also Studievalg Fyn.
